Emergency Plans

What is an emergency plan?

An emergency plan is a piece of vital documentation to a fire risk assessment. The aim of an emergency plan is to make people aware of potential hazards in the workplace and to emphasise how these hazards are combated. It is aimed to show employers and also employees what their roles are if a fire were to break out and how they should evacuate the premises safely.

Do I need an emergency plan?

Yes, an emergency plan is a requirement of the fire risk assessment, and plays a vital part in the safety of people in and around your premises.

If you employ more than 5 people, your premises are licensed or an alterations notice is in force then your fire risk assessment and emergency plan must be recorded. It must also be available to your employees, their representatives and the local enforcing authority. So that all parties involved are aware of what the procedure is if a fire breaks out.
