The aim of an emergency plan is to make people aware of potential hazards in the workplace and to emphasise how these hazards are combated. It is aimed to show employers and also employees what their roles are if a fire were to break out and how they should evacuate the premises safely.

Do I need an emergency plan?

Yes, an emergency plan is a requirement of the fire risk assessment, and plays a vital part in the safety of people in and around your premises.

If you employ more than 5 people, your premises are licensed or an alterations notice is in force then your fire risk assessment and emergency plan must be recorded. It must also be available to your employees, their representatives and the local enforcing authority. So that all parties involved are aware of what the procedure is if a fire breaks out.

How do I get hold of my emergency plan?

Once you have had your fire risk assessment and your emergency plans have been drawn up. You will be issued with a username and password to login and download your fire risk assessment, emergency plans and any relevant information related with your company.

These plans and assessments will be stored for you so if for any reason in the future they are misplaced then you only need to logon and download them again.
Please also note that you will be issued with hard copies.

What happens if my emergency plan changes?

As soon as your emergency plan is updated or changed then all you need to do is forward a copy to Devon Somerset Dorset Fire Risk Assessments and your updated emergency plan will be uploaded to the website for you to use when needed.
