Why have fire safety?

Seems like a stupid question with a simple answer but sometimes people don't realise "why?"

2005 figures reveal:-
  • 35,300 fires were recorded in buildings other than dwellings
  • 27 deaths
  • 1,400 injuries
  • of these 35,300 fires 6,400 of these were due to faulty leads and appliances
  • 3,800 were due to misuse of equipment
Remember these are not statistics for residential premises. Statistics taken from Communities and Local Governement Website.

Reasons:

With a fire risk assessment and emergency plan you are more aware of the risks surrounding your business and your employees. You are also more aware of what your appropriate actions should be on discovering a fire, how you should act on discovering the fire and the best way in which to evacuate your building.

Since October 2006 the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 has come into force, requiring fire risk assessments to be carried out at most places of work and leisure by law, disobeying these laws could result in court orders and possibly hefty fines.
Remember you have a responsibility for people that are in or near your premises whether it is a employees, visitors, contractors, residents etc.

Also having a risk assessment could potentially result in cheaper building and contents insurance.

What have you got to lose?

Without a fire risk assessment you could potentially lose a lot!

You run the risk of your business premises being very vulnerable to fire hazards and yourself and your employees knowledge of what to do if a fire were to break out in your premises would be very limited.

But most of all you are potentially putting your employees, clients and yourself at risk. Without the proper guidance and checks in place your premises and your business are in very serious danger of being burnt to the ground.

You may feel the chances of your business being affected are minimal but for the small cost to have a fire risk assessment through Devon Somerset Dorset Fire Risk Assessments, you could have the piece of mind that you are more prepared and aware of the dangers you could possibly face.
